A credit reporting agency may furnish a consumer report to a state or local child support enforcement agency for the purpose of establishing ability to make child support payments or determining the appropriate level of such payments, provided that the conditions in this portion of Section 604 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act as, amended, are met. These requirements include that paternity has been established or acknowleged by consumer, that the requesting agency has given 10 days notice by certified or registered mail, and that the report will be kept confidential, and not used in court or administrative proceedings.

Another provision, Section 622 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as amended, requires that consumer reporting agencies include in any consumer report issued, any information on the failure of the consumer to pay overdue child support which is supplied by a state or local child support agency, or verified by any local, state, or Federal government agency.
