Disputes & Accuracy

If the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in the consumer's file at a consumer reporting agency is disputed by the consumer, and the consumer notifies the agency directly of such dispute, the consumer reporting agency is required to immediately follow the reinvestigation procedures described section 611. In conducting such reinvestigation, the consumer reporting agency must review and consider all relevant information submitted by the consumer.
RECORD STATUS OR DELETE WITHIN 30 DAYS
The consumer reporting agency is required to reinvestigate free of charge, and record the current status of the disputed information, or delete the information from the file (or modify as appropriate) before the end of the 30 day period beginning on the date the notice of dispute is received.
