Commercial Collection

Debt collection which arises from transactions between merchants, which do not involve consumers, may be referred to as "commercial collection". Often far different issues are involved in the recovery of commercial accounts.

Often these accounts involve debts allegedly owed by small businesses. Many small businesses may be undercapitalized, and many simply fail. Increasingly, globalization and specialization may increase the geographical sales areas of industrial and service industries. Sometimes this may make it challenging to gain a great deal of knowledge about each customer which places an occasional order of $2,000.

The Commercial Law League of America

Credit and collection professionals interested in commercial collections should be familiar with the Commercial Law League of America, which describes itself as "North America's Oldest Creditor Rights Organization". Certainly no one can question the influence that this well respected organization has had on the collection of commercial accounts in the United States. A look at their web site, linked below, will show what the organization refers to as a "triadic" system involving attorneys, members of their Commercial Collection Agency Section, and the Association of Law List Publishers.
