Communications With Consumer Must Cease
LAWDOG is intended to assist in the understanding of basic concepts. See Disclaimer. Always obtain legal advice from legal professionals.
Notify That Efforts Are Being Terminated
If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect to such debt, except to advise the consumer that the debt collector's further efforts are being terminated. Section 805 (c) of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act reproduced here for illustration purposes only.
Optional Contact May Include Include Items From Previous Menu
Section 805 does not require further contact with the consumer. This section simply permits the debt collector to make a contact to advise that further efforts are being terminated, and to advise the consumer of actions which may be, or are ordinarily taken, or which the debt collector or creditor actually intends to take. See "Notify That May Invoke Remedies" and "Intends To Invoke" from previous menu.
