Use Of False Name Of Business Or Organization

A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Section 807 (14) prohibits the use of any business, company, or organization name other than the true name of the debt collector's business, company, or organization. Name Must Not Misrepresent Identity or Deceive Consumer

A portion the FTC Official Staff Commentary on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act reproduced here for illustration purposes only, includes the following: "A creditor may not use any name that would falsely imply that a third party is involved in the collection. ..."
