Section 801 names the statute the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act".

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act, which also includes other federal statutes relating to consumer credit, such as the Truth in Lending Act (Title I), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (Title VI), and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Title VII).

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is often referred to by the original numbering contained in Public Law 95-109 sections, as opposed to the actual legal citation in the United States Code. For example, what is commonly referred to as Section 802 of the Fair debt Collection Practices Act is actually 15 United States Code Section 1692. The table below provides a reference to 15 United States Code for each section.
