Court System:

 

The court system in the District Of Columbia consists of the U.S. District Court for the District Of Columbia, Court of Appeals and Superior Court.  Credit and collection cases are determined by the Superior Court.
 

  • Superior Court:  The Superior Court has jurisdiction over all civil actions that are not within the exclusive jurisdiction of any of the U.S. District Court or any other federal courts as prescribed under D.C. 11-501.  (D.C. 11-921).

    Small Claims Division:  The Small Claims and the Conciliation Branch of the Civil Division of the Superior Court have exclusive jurisdiction over money claims in amounts not exceeding $2,000.  (D.C. 11-1321.)
