Temporary Registration Permits Illinois residents purchasing a vehicle and
applying for Illinois license plates must display a temporary registration permit, valid
for 60 days from issuance date, and subject to reissue when appropriate. Agents of
Secretary of State, Illinois vehicle dealers, licensed remittance agents and currency
exchanges may issue the permits. Temporary registration permits are issued by the
Secretary of State at no cost 625 ILCS 5-3-407 |

| The Secretary of State is responsible for the registration and licensing
of motor vehicles, issuance of motor vehicle titles, issuance and suspension of drivers'
licenses, administration of safety and financial responsibility laws, and regulation of
driver training schools. |

| A person engaged in business of selling or dealing in, on
consignment or otherwise, five or more vehicles during the year, or acts as intermediary,
agent or broker for any licensed dealer or vehicle purchaser, or who represents or
advertises engagement in such business must apply for license under vehicle dealer
provisions. See Illinois Administrative Code Section 1020.10 and 625ILCS 5/5-101. |
