Court System:

The court system in the State of Illinois consists of the Supreme Court, Appellate Court, Court of Claims, and Circuit Court.  Credit and collection matters are generally within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court.

    Municipal Department:  This division of the Circuit Court has jurisdiction of all civil cases in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $15,000.

    County Department:  This division of the Circuit Court has general jurisdiction for money claims over $15,000.

    Small Claims Court:  Small Claims Court is a division of the Circuit Court and has jurisdiction over money claims involving an amount not more than $2,500 exclusive of interest and costs.
