| Fair Debt Collection Practices: The Maine Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (32 M.R.S.A. 11001 et seq.) is substantively the same as the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (15 U.S.C. section 1692 et seq.), except that Maine prohibits a debt collector from reporting: (1) credit or debt information in its own name, and (2) overdue medical expenses owed by a parent for a minor child if the debt collector has been notified orally or in writing of a court or administrative order identifying another person as responsible for the obligation. (32 M.R.S.A. 11013(4), (5).) |
