Court System:

 

The court system in Michigan generally consists of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Circuit Courts, and District Courts.  Credit and collection matter are generally within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Courts and District Courts.
 

Circuit Courts:    The Circuit Court is a trial court of general jurisdiction, and presides over all civil cases in which the amount of controversy is over $25,000.  (MSA 27A.8301.)

District Courts:    All civil cases involving an amount in controversy of $25,000 or less is within the jurisdiction of the District Courts. (MSA 27A.8301.)

Small Claims Division:  Small Claims Courts are divisions of the District Court and have jurisdiction over amounts in controversy not exceeding $1,750.00.  (MSA 27A.8401.)
