| The court system in the State of New Jersey consists of the Supreme Court, Appellate Court, Superior Court, Tax Court and Municipal Court. Credit and collection cases are generally determined by the Civil Division of the Superior Courts of the State of New Jersey. Superior Court: Civil cases that involve monetary disputes in an amount in excess of $10,000.00 are generally heard in the civil division of the Superior Court. Special Civil Part: The Special Civil Part is a division of the Superior Court which deals with claims for monetary relief in amounts between $2,000.00 and $10,000.00, (Rule 6:1-2(1), Rules of Court). Small Claims Court: Small Claims Courts generally handles cases for the recovery of money in amounts under $2,000.00. (Rule 6:1-2(2), Rules of Court).
