Court System:

The court system in South Carolina consists of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Circuit Court, Municipal Court and Magistrate Court.  Credit and collection cases are generally determined by the Circuit Court, and Magistrate Court.

    Circuit Court:  This court has exclusive jurisdiction on all civil matters. (Article 5, Chapter 5, Title 14.)

    Magistrate Court:  This court has jurisdiction in actions arising on contracts for the recovery of money only, in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $5,000.  (22-3-10.)
